Concern for children as drivers fail to stop.

Concern for children as drivers fail to stop.

WHO:St Pauls Catholic primary school and Waimea Intermediate

WHERE: Nelson

WHEN:30th of may 2018

WHY/HOW:people fail to stop and let the school kids go past the pedestrian crossing making them later.

WHAT:St Pauls Catholic primary school and Waimea Intermediate have a few of there students and parents being crossing guards to make sure that all the kids can cross the road safely. The schools made a decion a few years ago that adults would take over the duties of road patrol and the kids would assist.A person says “I just don’t think its fair to put that kind of pressure on to the kids. It’s just too aggressive out here. The majority of drivers are fine, they get it, but there are a few that just don’t slow down or stop. We had a guy overtake a bus last week. We got the kids off the road but the driver was gone, we didn’t catch his plate.” The council could review whether there were any changes it could make to encourage safer driver.

MY OPINION:I think its good that the parents are doing most of the crossings because it will take of most of the pressure of the kids even though there the older ones.
