Jean Gardner Batten is an amazing flyer but sadly died of a dog bite. Jean Batten at birth was named Jane but it changed to Jean over time. Her date of birth was the 15th of September 1909 and she was born in Rotorua, New Zealand. Jean had 2 older brothers.
Jean Batten has shown greatness because she broke the England to Australia record by English Aviator Amy Johnson by over 4 days. Jean Batten got there 14 days and 22 hours faster. She also set another world record from England to New Zealand.
Jean Batten once said, “every flier who ventures across oceans to distance lands is a potential explorer...” I think this means that people who take risks, are brave and they will do new amazing things that have never been done before.
I think she had an awesome flying ability and is a role model for kiwi kids because she had a never give up attitude and wasn’t afraid to do something different.
